The Academy of Art University (AAU or ART U), formerly Academy of Fine art College and Richard Stephens Academy of Fine art, is a private for-profit art schoolhouse in San Francisco, California. It was founded as the Academy of Advertizing Art by Richard S. Stephens in 1929.[2] In fall 2020, it had 202 full-time teachers, 621 part-time pedagogy staff, and viii,928 students;[three] it claims to be the largest privately owned art and blueprint school in the The states.[4] The school is one of the largest property owners in San Francisco, with the main campus located on New Montgomery Street in the South of Market district.[five]

It was founded in 1929 as a school for advert fine art.[six] The founder, Richard Southward. Stephens, a painter and magazine editor, led information technology until 1951 when his son Richard A. Stephens took over, who in 1992 was replaced by his girl Elisa Stephens.[6] Under her presidency, educatee numbers increased from around 2000[ citation needed ] to eighteen,000 by 2011,[7] but have since fallen to under 12,000[ commendation needed ]. Athletics [edit]

For the 2015 indoor and outdoor track and field seasons, they had seven All-American honors and ane NCAA private champion in Jordan Edwards.[35]
